FAQs

Is it normal to hear scratching in the attic in the summer, or does that mean animals got in?

Scratching in the attic is worth paying attention to, especially in summer. This is peak season for raccoons and squirrels raising young, and attics offer exactly what they're looking for: warmth, shelter, and distance from predators.

A few things to listen for:

  • Scratching or scurrying, especially around dawn or dusk
  • Sounds concentrated in one area rather than moving around
  • Small thumps or chirping, which can mean a litter of babies is nesting

It's not "normal" in the sense that it's harmless. Animals in the attic often mean torn insulation, chewed wiring, and contamination from droppings, and the damage tends to be more extensive than what you can hear from below. The good news is it's very fixable when caught early. We handle both the animal removal and exclusion (sealing entry points so they don't come back) and the repair work if there's already damage.
